We were given a room with a view/balcony, which was more than we booked, which was so kind of the hotel. The view from the balcony overlooking the river, the large bed, the bath and the generously restocked bathroom and tea tray was brilliant. The hotel is a family owned concern and this comes through repeatedly with the friendliness and warmth of all staff - nothing is too much trouble. The food both at breakfast and dinner was beyond good. The stay made us very happy 😁.

Pros- Restaurant staff are very attentive. Bed very comfortable. Clean room. Location. Cons- this is by no means a 5 star hotel therefore the restaurant prices/portions should NOT be priced as a 5 star. Extremely over priced menu, all prices need to be refreshed and lowered as the food quality is not up to standards. 3 chicken wings as a starter and a burnt burger as a main course with extortionate prices. No signage on the hotel and sat nav directs you to another part of the town. Staff told me that they were aware of this for a few months but nothing has been done to rectify the problem. I asked the receptionist if I could upgrade to a superior room with river view which I was happy to pay that bit extra for, I was told no because they were fully booked even though they still had rooms available for sale on ALL websites including their own. She didn’t even look at the availability, No was the definitive answer, it felt like I was allocated a room and I couldn’t change to another no matter how much money I wanted to spend. The receptionist needs to be retrained in customer service, as the way she spoke to customers and also shouting across the room to other staff members to get their attention as the queue was growing and she couldn’t cope with it was very poor. I felt embarrassed for the way the junior staff were being treated by her in front of customers.
