We had the best stay ever at Centara Aonang. All the positive reviews we read/heard before staying here do little justice - it is truly the perfect place for families with children. The kids club was the highlight as we let the kids engage in activities there while we went to the spa. Definitely going to come back here - just to enjoy this place again.

We liked this place a lot more after the first night. On checkin, the hotel seems a bit run down. The staff had stained shirts, the folio with the paperwork looked like it was 20 years old, the welcome drinks were not good. Fortunately, everything improved significantly from those first impressions.
The rooms were comfortable, though the kids beds are about as hard as you could possibly make them. Literally like sleeping on a board. Fortunately our kids can sleep anywhere so it wasn't an issue.
The AC was super strong and it took a few hours for the AC unit to remove the humidity in the room and moisture from the floors - so if they're wet when you first get there, don't worry. Give it a few hours.
The main pool you see when you checkin is fairly meh. It's a large and clean kids pool with some average water slides. The real pool is close to the beach and much, MUCH more picturesque. We spend most of our time there.
We also loved the location of the hotel. From the beach side of the property, it's a 7-10 minute walk to the shopping area and along the way there are a bunch of cute seaside dining and drink options. The drink stand closest to the hotel sells very cheap drinks, but unfortunately, the offbrand liquor (including tequila made from rice alcohol!) made for terrible drinks.
The beach is very close and fairly clean, and it's only a short walk to the longtail boat dispatch hut where you can grab a boat to Railay beach (highly recommended).

Overall, the hotel was great. We booked a family room with pool access and the room was clean, spacious, and worth the extra cost to have such wonderful access to the pool - which was huge! Beach access was great too. I knocked off a star because when we checked in, the hotel said I couldn't have my 18 and 17 year old stay in the room with us even though it clearly states on hotels.com that the room sleeps 4. When I checked in, the hotel said that I could only have 4 if the other two are under 12 but that was not stated anywhere in the fine print and wouldn't let me check in until I paid extra. I found that unsettling, especially when I found an entirely separate room for the two bunk beds that ended up being a perfect setup for my children - who at 18 and 17, COULD have a separate room (and we've booked plenty when needed) but being in separate rooms naturally creates distance and I wanted us all together for this family experience. The cost wasn't prohibitive and I didn't let it ruin my experience, but since it's not high season right now, it was a little off-putting.

Hotel is nice, walking distance from everything, at the end of the beach so not a crazy amount of tourists walking the beach.
95% of the staff were friendly and helpful, however some of them seems exhausted\ not motivated… We encountered several employees struggling with basic English.
Our room was very clean and cozy.
If you’re looking for a really quiet hotel, it might not be the best options since it was mainly families with young kids.
Breakfast was ok.

The hotel is more like being in Orlando than in Thailand. It has no Thai personality. Very much a family resort, the pool lounges are taken by 9:00 a.m and guests keep them all day, even if they don’t use them for hours at a time. Lots of small children, not always supervised.
The room was large and comfortable.
Lots of choices at the breakfast buffet but the coffee was some of the worst I ever had at a hotel.
There are lots of better choices in Krabi.

Great location and the kids loved the pools. Breakfasts had lots of variety and the night time entertainment (singers & fireshow) are fantastic. We had a hard time getting beach towels and wish the pools were open a bit longer - but other than that it was excellent.

This was an affordable paradise some years ago. Quiet, adults in the front beach pool and the kids in the back side water slide, friendly staff and great breakfast. Now, it has become an overcrowded, noisy and very expensive hotel. Small kids playing around your sun loungers in the front beach side «grown up adult pool», all services and food much more expensive, renting out sun loungers and towels to people from other hotels (500thb per person). Average breakfast and the personell is unfriendly and DO NOT SPEAK OR UNDERSTAND basic english. The tour desk-lady were showing us brochures for daytrips to the islands and did not understand our need for a car and ferry to Koh Lanta. Useless. Will not return to Centara Ao Nang again!

Really amazing place, children-friendly. close to the beach w an amazing view. The breakfast spread was amazing too.
However. we got the in-room pool, unfortunately, it wasn't a beautiful sight. Should have gotten a cheaper room as the shared pool was amazing enough.
