Pestana Carlton Madeira Ocean Resort Hotel

We had a family room at the front of the hotel which was a great size. Breakfasts were good. WIFI is not great in the rooms or around the hotel. But overall very nice.

Our check in experience was wonderful, we were warmly greeted and given great tips and information about the island! The resort itself is large, several swimming pools available and well maintained. We stayed in a junior suite with 2 children (who used the sofa bed which was comfortable and large), it was not ocean view, but was spacious and clean. For a 5 star resort a few small things could be tidied up, such as many scuffs on walls, carpet upgraded, but other than that room was good! The breakfast buffet is simply amazing!! We looked forward to it every morning! Great experience overall!

Great hotel with ocean access and four pools. Amazing breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, large room (at least the family room we had was large with nice balcony and lots of light).

The day we arrived there was a big cocaroach in the blind and that was a big turn off fir all of us. We were so worried to have these animal come back with us in our suitcases. My kids were terrified to sleep at night. Not going back to this hotel

Spacious comfortable hotel and room however, on arrival our room wasn't ready and eventually when we did get in although it was lovely- we opened the curtains to find the view was of the road and busy entrance to hotel so very disappointing. We upgraded to a seaview room which was faultless and worth the extra cost but wish this had been clarified when booking through expedia to avoid all the messing about on arrival . Other than that the facilities are great, 4 pools the outdoor ones being sea water games room for kids , spa and well equipped gym(severe lack of air con in the gym) and excellent choice of foods for breakfast and dinner . One thing to note , although kettle etc is supplied in the room the condiments are only replaced at a cost so remember to pack your t bags!

This was a family holiday to Madeira, two parents over 60's and two adult daughters over 30. From the moment we arrived we experienced excellent service, from our bags being delivered to our hotel rooms and our rooms being changed to accommodate two single beds (even though this was my fault for not calling and letting them know) Elizabeth who is lovely provided our welcome meeting which was great and reminded me to visit the Jacuzzi downstairs, which you must all try.. its more like a hydropool and as good as some spa's I have been too.. The breakfast is incredible, the only downsize is it is too good and our waste lines have expanded.. but so much choice and great customer service providing coffee and tea.. For me this was the perfect hotel, it's unprotentious yet worthy of 5* and it if you want to be left alone to get on with your holiday you can, but there is equally lots of people to assist you should you need.. If you like no cheese hotels with relaxed atmosphere this is it.. The rooms are huge and no matter where you stay you have a great view of the Island or the seafront.. It's so easy to walk down to Funchal you can't possibly get lost and the hotel is quite high so when driving back I always found my way.. I don't think it's a hotel for parents with young children under 12 though.. and it was mainly familys with older children as the sea access to the pool below might be a little dangerous for small children..
