Pestana Alvor Praia Beach & Golf Hotel

My family and I had a good time, and we will definitely return to Pestana.

Great resort all around. Perfect family vacation property. Amazing breakfast and sea view from the hotel. Perfect access to beaches and the beaches ARE AMAZING!

We visited very early season (April) The hotel's proximity to the beach is its best feature. The hotel is advertised at 5 stars but is clearly not, nearer 4 star, a lot of the hotel was sparce and vacant with little atmosphere. The food is perfectly fine and adequate but not if you're vegetarian and definitely NOT 5 star. I would expect tea/coffee facilities to be provided in the room and more than a can of 7up and Pepsi in the mini bar. Talking of bar I was charged the ridiculous sum of €21 for one shot of Grey Goose in a Vodka Martini which totalled €34. At breakfast I asked for water at the table and was advised it's at the buffet so I took a bottle and returned to the table only for the waiter to come and take it back and say "that's for everybody" so I asked for a jug and was told they don't have water jugs. Towels were provided for the sunbeds / beach but only until 11am and most people helped themselves to 4 or 6 if you didn't get one...tough luck. The female staff were warm and friendly as were the younger male staff but the "older" generation staff were cold and basically rude. We booked a Spa and Golf hotel expecting to see fewer children but it was packed...don't be deceived by the photo of the pool it's tiny, if it had rained at all we wouldn't have got a look in. The outside pool is lovely although not heated and there is no lifgeguard present... basically kids running around the gym and sauna whilst mum and dad ignore their behaviour.

We booked this hotel not noing what to expect but were very pleasently surprised. The hotel is nicely located with beautiful views and easy access to great beaches. Our children, aged 10, 6 & 4 loved the place and thouroughly enjoyed the beaches and the indoor pool. The outdoor pool was a little too cold and in addition to being a little warmer, it could have done with a proper shallow small children's section. Due to thsi our children always wanted to be in the indoor pool - this got a little hot and tiresome for the supervising parent! The hotel served up some great food and the cafes along the beaches offered excellent fish meals.
