Nothing unique about it, except maybe charging double the rate for one of the nights because of a festival. Crap service in the restaurant. Pay 45 bucks for a meal that has 3 pieces of lamb on it. Was rude at the counter which frustrated me into saying "I'd like to pay for the filth you served me" since even the children's menu was crap and the kid wouldn't eat the tasteless chicken tenderloins served. Nice surprise when checking out to be charged for it, even though the boy in the restaurant was never given my room number. So I guess he was following me around too. The lady at the main desk most mornings, I could see through her fake smile and "good mornings" clearly didn't want to be there.

From the get go our experience at Trailways was enhanced by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Part of a family owned group, extra care and attention to detail is evident in this hotel. Trailways is just a short walk across the bridge from CBD shops, cafes, restaurants, a cinema, the Cathedral, the vintage precinct, art galleries and a Countdown supermarket as well as the famous, not to be missed market on a Saturday morning. In the other direction, it is a short drive to the Port of Nelson and its marina and restaurants. Our room was comfortable and tastefully furnished with all the usual amenities including free Wifi and Sky TV. A small balcony with a table and chairs extended the living area. The bathroom was luxurious with a walk in shower, rain head and wall jets, all very clean. Some noise from the adjacent room did not intrude on our stay. Other facilities available included a heated outside pool in summer months. A sunny, April day saw us enjoy this well maintained, tepid pool. A computer and a small guests' library are also available. Tides restaurant and bar on site is very popular with the locals.A Happy Hour runs on a Saturday afternoon. Overlooking the river and tastefully decorated, the restaurant features delicious food, presented well. Dinner prices are similar to other Nelson restaurants. Breakfast, lunch and room service are available. Service in the restaurant was friendly and efficient. We will definitely return but next time for much longer.
