Owl Hotel

The Owl Hotel is in a quiet location with easy walk to Vondelpark, museums and cafes. The staff is friendly and helpful. My family of 3 generations loved it.

Good hotel and the family room was spacious enough for our needs. Staff were very welcoming. Which is always pleasing after a long journey. Can't fault them. Cleaning staff were also friendly and hardworking and kept the place looking clean and tidy. Decor is a little dated and us starting to show signs of wear. In our family room, 2 lamps did not work and the room had only one working plug. This has been noted in other reviews. Disappointed with the breakfast from a cost point of view. It was an adequate continental style breakfast but overpriced for what was available. Also very few vegan options but that is expected so not really a criticism. However, We were told on entry that children's breakfast would be free, but upon paying this was denied and we were charged 10E per day per child. While this is not unreasonable, had we been informed upfront we would not have booked the breakfast as it is easy to find cheaper alternatives nearby in the city.

The Owl Hotel is a small, family run, boutique-ish hotel in a very convenient, upscale neighborhood near Vondelpark, the Museumplein, and the Leidseplein. A quick walk to the tram puts you 10-15 minutes away from everything. Our room, a triple, was very comfortable and was a great home base for our stay in Amsterdam. Others have noted their interesting policy of requiring that you leave your room's key card at the front desk when you leave the hotel for the day, but I didn't find that inconvenient or felt it was unsafe. For someone to walk in off the street, guess your room number, and gain access seems far fetched especially since the front desk staff makes a point to get to know the guests. It's not that big of a place. As a person who loses things all the time, it was kind of nice, actually. There is always a person there at the front desk to give you your card when you return. One thing to note, I was under the impression that breakfast was included in the room price, so I was a bit surprised when we were charged 14 Euros for each breakfast per person when we checked out. That mistake is on me and not a ding against the establishment. I just wanted to point it out for others like me who may assume breakfast is included. The wifi was also not very good which made working at the hotel a challenge, but not undoable. I would come back to the Owl for sure.

Charming, family-friendly hotel close to museum district and a convenient home-base for day excursions into the heart of Amsterdam. Icing on the cake was the friendly staff that ensured a clean and comfortable stay!
