Hotel El Español Paseo de Montejo

Pool was dirty, uninvited and unappealing,bathroom by the pool dirty, no mini fridge in room , no drinking water . More of a one or two night hotel instead of family vacation type of hotel . Friendly staff,cordial and professional. Beautiful location near downtown, I will say maybe to provide bottle water to guests, keep up cleaning and maintenance in pool area to make it more appealing for families be my only suggestions.

Although this reservation was done months in advance for my 80 year old father for a week, after just 1 night stay, the hotel kicked him out of his room as he did not have cash to pay in advance the remaining of the hotel nights and despite having a valid credit card on file for the entire reservation. The hotel nor Orbitz contacted me of this situation when it happened although i was contacted immediately by hotel and Orbitz 2 days before check in requesting to switch credit cards as it looks hotel did not accept AMEX. I personally talked to hotel main desk providing Visa card info and explaining this and was confirmed that this should not be a problem. Thanks god we have some family in Merida that could pick my father and have space for him to sleep. I explained this situation next day in person to main desk and instead of just accepting their mistake and having again the reservation for my father, they claimed a new reservation would have to be made with a higher rate. I requested to talk to the Manager and escalate but they declined. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
