Ahau Tulum

The beach was outstanding! Very little seaweed and fine white powder sand. The restaurant food and staff were superb! The front desk reception was lukewarm. Just wanted the credit card info and not very excited to tell us about the amenities. We were told our room wasn’t ready when we arrived at 1:30 pm and reminded us unnecessarily that check in was at 3 pm. This is low season and weird no room available early. No offer to keep our carryon bags so we could enjoy facility earlier. We decided to eat lunch. A nice welcome drink, however, was served and that was appreciated. I was told to look online to see what the facility offered. Also, you need Whats app to communicate with front desk staff. Got very scant orientation to the room. We had to figure out the lock mechanism to the safe with some initial frustration and the AC temp control has 10 buttons and had to guess which one graduated room temp. Incense in room was old & moist so would not light. They got us a fridge for some meds we had, again appreciated that. The light in the fan unit came on twice spontaneously waking us up each time. Also, thumping music from next door bar kept us up ‘til 3 am on Sunday night. This was low season and thankfully this music wasn’t on the last night we were there. This hotel is not for kids. Need to throw out TP in basket not in the toilet as part of eco friendly stance. No TVs in room or nearby facilities. The darling for this hotel is the beach & restaurant food/staff.

We paid for a junior studio with beach which was as described. What was not identified was the music that played till 0500 everyday and that they did not clean the balcony covered poo excreta. No fly screens so mosquitos in room if not wanting to use air conditioning. On requesting a change of room, told music was just the weekend. Untrue. No daybeds around the pool and as the ocean was littered with seaweed this meant walking from beach through dinners to access pool. Staff very pleasant.
