Grand Hotel Excelsior

Beautiful hotel, our family room was great, pools, bars and breakfast were wonderful. Staff were so helpful and kind, loved our stay.

I had a very disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share. Contrary to its advertised image as a five-star luxury resort, the reality is far from it. The condition of the property is dire, with the rooms featuring old, stained carpets, and the bathroom tiles cracked and showing their age. The beds, equipped with metal spring mattresses that seem to be decades old, along with unclean pillows, made for an uncomfortable setting. Moreover, there's a pervasive smell of water damage throughout the property. Upon arrival and initial inspection of our room, it became clear that the accommodations were not as promised. I promptly returned to the front desk to express that the room was not acceptable and that I would not be staying. Despite this, the hotel refused to issue a refund, citing their cancellation policy, even though my actions did not constitute a breach of contract since I had already checked in. During my time at the front desk, I witnessed two other families expressing similar complaints. What's more disheartening is Expedia's lack of accountability for the misleading representation of this property on their platform. It's widely known among the locals about the deceptive nature of this place, which is a disservice to Malta's efforts to attract tourists. I strongly advise against staying here.

In general a nice, clean hotel. Location is great. You can go to Valletta city center on foot. It could be more child friendly. Sauna was not allowed for my 9 year old son who regularly goes to Sauna with us on ski holidays.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Grand Excelsior. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and playful. We stayed in a 7th floor terraced room and absolutely loved the view. The room was extremely quiet, although it was the low season, and the common areas were often quite loud, especially with children, but we are an older couple without children, thus not always in the mood for children's antics. The dining options were limited during the Christmas season, thus we ate out more often than inside. The breakfast buffet was very good, but extremely British, which is perhaps expected. Obviously, we are not British.

This was a family birthday celebration trip. The staff was very accommodating and treated us generously with extra perks. We had an amazing overall experience! Would greatly recommend this resort.

Very nice hotel, great location with lovely food. The pool area is a great setting and beautiful view with ships Constantine passing, there is an issue with the sun parasols blowing over however, my wife was hit twice by these as the bases aren’t heavy enough or deep enough to withstand the wind. Please be careful if you have young children as they could be seriously hurt by this

The hotel is large. If you are expect 4-5 star experience and are not traveling with family I would stay elsewhere. The ac didn’t work and asked twice to look at the issue. There was only Buffett options with limited Al la carts items. The staff was very friendly and it didn’t make up for the lack of expectations of the room. I ended up going back to the Westin and basically paid for the remainder of my stay at this hotel while paying for the choice of comfort.

Gorgeous property with old charm, perfect location. Comfortable beds and the pillows. The breakfast buffet with good selection. Friendly staff. We booked airport transfer with the hotel. Our driver Charles was very professional and friendly. We had only one issue. The check out time was at noon. We checked out at 11;15 a.m. and paid our bill. The payment was charged to our credit card. 2 hours later we got another charge from the hotel on our credit card. Fortunately we were still in Valletta and we came back to the hotel reception to deal with the issue. The hotel receptionist made an error, did not check us out from hotel when we left at 11:15 a.m. and then we got charged 2 hours later for late check out. The hotel manager apologized for the error and returned the funds to our credit card. Other than that our stay at the hotel was very pleasant and relaxing. Definitely I would recommend this hotel to my family and friends.
