We knew our room would be on the small side as we were travelling as a family of four. The staff were very friendly and the location was great. The breakfast was fine, but not as varied as we would have liked.

Absolutely amazing hotel, particularly for families. The rooms are very large by Japanese standards and very comfortable. Great beds and pillows also. Great location, very close to the Imperial Palace, Nijo Palace and a twenty minute walk to Nishiki market and the main shopping strip. Highly recommended!

Very good hotel with an excellent service ! The room is very little for 3 people (2 adults and 1 child) but very clean and well located. We had a great time in Kyoto…

My friends and I enjoyed our stay with easy access to all the conveniences of the city, especially public transportation. We had 4 people in the “family” room. It’s a tight squeeze with luggage but we didn’t spend much time in the room so it was ok! Staff was very friendly and helpful, with many staff members speaking English and everyone being super patient with us if they did not.

Hotel looks very nice, great presentation and clean, close to shops and subway line. Walking distance to nishiki markets and castles. Room was a bit cramped for a family of four but it was good for each one of us to have our own bed. Rooms were clean and tidy with everything we needed. Breakfast buffet had good variety of Japanese and western choices.

We booked a family room here after some confusion over room occupancy on a previous (now cancelled) booking). A family room is nothing more than a hotel room with most of the spare floor space occupied by extra beds so it was pretty cramped. Aside from that, the bathroom facilities were typically high quality you would expect in Japan. The staff were generally helpful. There appeared to be a decent breakfast buffet but we didn't use that option. The hotel is a short walk from the Marutamachi station on the Karasuma Line of Kyoto Subway. Note that this line is not covered by JR Pass. There's a Kyoto Coop small supermarket and the usual Family Mart only metres away so very convenient for a quick bite to eat. If you don't mind a bit of walking then you can walk to the main Kyoto shopping area and Nishiki markets. The Imperial Place is also not too far.

Positives were that the rooms were clean and accommodated a large family with a plentiful bed setup. The sake tasting at night was nice too. The bus to kinkakuji was terrific and the driver was very kind. It was a little hard to make reservations for the bus and it was a little frustrating, but once i made the reservation it was smooth. It was convenient to leave suitcases while sightseeing and send one home too. Negatives were that there was only one rather limited vending machine for coffee beverages and the closest convenience stores were Family Mart, which doesnt have good coffee. The beds were very hard and you could hear water flowing through the pipes in the walls whenever showers were used even next door. Also the formerly smart tv could only access regular cable tv even though the options for netflix and amazon video were on the remote. Area around the hotel was ok but not much around. key cards were also fiddley and hard to use. The breakfast was not very good even though it was expensive. There was no espresso machine, just plain black coffee in a pot. The bacon tasted like plastic and was very oily, and the vegetarian curry and egg tofu dish was not good. The salted saba was also very fishy tasting (even though i usually love saba.) The eggs were plain and rubbery. The bread selection was limited. The wakame for the soup was also not good. I wish I hadn't pre-reserved two days of breakfast. Probably better to try one day and reserve the day of if you like it.

Place was clean and quiet. Rooms were a bit small - good enough for 2 but very tight with a kiddo. No room for suitcases. Staff was awesome. Breakfast was very good for Japanese style food which we liked. The western stuff was less but they advertised it that way. One nitpick - they have a check out policy of 10am which is not great and they won’t allow for extensions without a big payment (20pc room rate). We are used to 12pm and had to adjust. Overall 4/5.
