Hotel Jökull

Clean and good size for family of four. I think for what we paid for breakfast and what was offered that breakfast should have been included in price rather than an extra.

I want to especially mention the great staff. It appears to be family staffed with the owner, Artur, manning the daytime reception. He was a great gentleman and very helpful giving information on local sights to see. When our next stop at Media Luna Guesthouse in Seydisfjördur went bad because we were not given the check-in codes until very, very late, it was an easy decision to stay a third night at Hotel Jokull. This is a great place to view the nearby Vesturahorn range, Skutafoss, and the Red Chair.

This property was simple in the best possible way. We had two twin rooms for our family of four including two teenage boys. It had everything we needed. Check-in was easy, staff were very friendly, rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and bathrooms were a good size. Hotel is about 10 mins from Hofn where we had a very nice dinner. If you're going to drive to this side of island, this hotel is a nice stopping point.

We were the only guest staying here that night, but understandably Höfn is further away especially during the off peak winter months. Keeping this in mind we were asked what we’d like for breakfast so there was no buffet (so can’t comment on all of the options that may have been available if full house), we were also offered a radiator, along with the wall attached room radiator incase it got cold. Pros - huge room with big windows, bit toilet, tv, decent breakfast, polite and accommodative reception lady. Out of hours number was useful - help arrived in 3 minutes when we called up! Wide corridor outside room - good space for baby to crawl. Cons - car park area felt spooky at night with limited lighting, this could have been exaggerated because we were already hotel alone to begin with. A personal opinion, but if a member of staff stayed on-site, or made the exception of staying on-site in this instance, so that we weren’t completely alone it would have helped increase sense of security. Obviously this requires senior planning and decision making but would have really added to the experience.
