Holiday Inn Express Berlin City Centre, an IHG Hotel

We stayed for 4 nights over the Berlin half marathon. Pretty standard room, cleaned alright and check in was fine. Breakfast pretty standard. On the 3rd night of our stay we (me, my wife and 8 month old) were woken in the middle of the night, around 1am, by a man standing in our room who had made our baby cry. It was surreal and i managed to usher the man out. I phoned down to reception to tell them about the incident. The man on the desk dealt with it pretty well and said he would inform management in the morning about what happened. Next morning we spoke to management who blamed us, telling us it couldnt possibly be their fault and saying we must not have closed our door properly. Hotel doors are built to close so not exactly sure what they meant by this. They took no responsibility for what was a fault in their security. After talking to management i went back to our room and was able to open the door without using my key card. I informed the front desk/management of this and they had their maintenance team look into it. Their maintenance team told me the battery could be low/faulty which would mean the door wouldnt lock when it was supposed to. I told management of this but again, they said there was no evidence of any wrongdoing on their behalf and the most we got was a "sorry for your inconvenience, wont happen again" As someone who had an infant in our room i took this to be completely unprofessional and showing no empathy. Wont be using this chain again

Great stay at Holiday Inn, we stayed as a family for 3 nights in Berlin and loved the hotel and breakfast was great too. The customer service is okay, but the reception staff could not advise us on any restaurant recommendations which I found strange. However, there was one member of staff called Chamel Perera who went above and beyond to provide us with amazing service. He helped us so much and we were grateful to meet him. Overall the stay at Holiday Inn was great and we would recommend to all coming to Berlin.

It was tidy, suited our needs, was close to public transport links and staff were friendly. Therecwas a generous breakfast offering and they were family friendly. For example, they opened an overspill room for breakfast when the main room was busy and crowded

3-night stay with family in December 23. Overall good with two limitations: (i) rooms are very tiny, mine was advertised as 19 sq mts but was 14 at the very best. When you have big luggage to open it does make a difference and makes it rather uncomfortable. I chose this hotel also based on room size, so was very disappointed when I found out; (ii) breakfast is great in terms of choice and quality but the hotel is very big, so at rush hour when most customers are having breakfast (usually after 9.30 in Winter, when we were there) it's a struggle to find a table.
