perfect location, uncomfortable family room. Do not recommend families with children.

I don't like writing a poor review for this hotel because to begin with we thought it was amazing. We stayed for 3 nights, but were happy to be leaving when we did. We're a family of 4 and our room didn't have a chair which I'd seen in other rooms. Despite asking housekeeping and reception staff we remained having to sit on beds and the floor. However, this was a minor annoyance. My real issue was the insecurity of the place. We made use of the guest kitchen to cook; it's fabulous to have such facility and does require trust of other guests to be able to leave food in the fridge. On our last night we were cooking pizza and anther person arrived in the kitchen and with 15 minutes left we had time to chat. They told us they were from Berlin. When I sounded surprised that they would stay in a hotel while living in the city they told me they were "a guest without a room". Over the course of the conversation they made jokes about my phone (plugged in charging) being their phone, checked out the contents of the fridge and told us how they could only afford to eat beans. The hotel is opposite the Ostbahnhof and in the basement their is a supermarket that does cashback for glass bottle deposits. The place is a magnet for "people with chaotic lifestyles" queuing up with shopping trollys full of bottles to cash in. Out of our window we could see people in the carpark sleeping rough. We felt very uncomfortable and took our pizza to eat on the floor of our room.
