Hôtel du Petit Palais

We stayed for 4 nights at approximately EU 180 per night with no breakfast. We had a standard double but with private outdoor space. The outdoor space was nice to have. The hotel is nicely appointed and clean. It is situate in a nice residential area and the junior staff are friendly and helpful. Impressions of the personnel were marred by one somewhat pretentious and aloof official who provided a cool if not unwelcoming impression. There is no restaurant in close proximity and while the 10 to 15 minute walk down to La Chaise Bleu is not bad, the climb back up after dinner is not pleasant on a frequent basis. This creates a captive market especially for breakfast and at EU 20 breakfast here is unacceptable. There is no coffee maker in the room or in any common area which speaks to a particular attitude by management. Bacon pieces are left to marinate in fat, waffles and pancakes get leathery and scrambled eggs are not kept fresh. A guest can have a continental breakfast for EU 12 but is then confined to the room to consume it. The pre-made dinners available are not good dining. The safe is too small to even accommodate a tablet. Bathroom amenities were not always replaced and do not appear to be upper end products. The shower hose is fixed to the middle of the tub area and is thus awkward to use as a stand up shower. Flooding occurred. Our greatest concern is the lack of soundproofing. We could easily overhear conversations, coughing, nighttime bathroom use

Above all this is a very quiet and friendly family run hotel within easy walking distance of Nice. We had a very pleasant stay with our family using the hotel as a base to visit the local area. The rooms are simple and clean with great air conditioning ( this hotel is well air conditioned too). We benefitted from a terrace with table and chairs so we could all have a night cap after a days excursions. The menu for lunch is simple and well prepared with some good wines. The girls loved sun bathing by the pool in between excursions.
