It was our first time staying here. We were blown away by the service. They sent us a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. Upon arrival they also sent gifts for our little ones. The spa was amazing too. The service, food, location, room, and property were all excellent. We will definitely come back.

We had a great stay at the Fairmont Orchid. Stayed for week and ate somewhere new each day- lots of dining options on property and within walking distance. A highlight was the staffer Matthew- he popped up everywhere and was so knowledgeable, patient and kind. He was our guide on a canoe trip we took, he guided us on a “turtle talk” walk and he is the one who lights all the tiki torches and blows the conch at sunset. My kids learned a lot from him during the turtle talk and canoe trip- I highly recommend those resort excursions. The beach and lagoon area was awesome and so was the pool. The food was incredible. Great trip overall!

I have been coming here for years, the hotels and everything is the same, except the prices. Get ready to spend lots of $. The hotel is old and outdated, the outdoor amenities and extras are the same as 10 years ago but all the prices have skyrocketed. The hotel was only 60% full (was obvious) and told to me by numerous hotel staff, and upon check in I had to wait for my room. When I checked in at 1pm I was told I needed to wait, which was odd since the hotel was half empty, and so I waited until 330 PM with two elderly parents, I returned and still the rooms were not ready. I asked the person why I needed to wait when guests checking in right next to me were being given rooms immediately, he said your "type of room is not available yet unless you would like to pay for an upgrade" he said, My type of room was $3000 for 5 nights but I didn't pay enough to stop the person from being rude. He then left and his manager came to the counter and gave us a room within a minute? Not sure why the previous person couldn't do that? The beach front cabanas are all over $475 now to get some shade. They went from $100 a few years ago to now $475 for the cheapest one. On the kids beach you can find an old two seat chaise lounge for $150. Dinner is about $100-150 per person so be ready. They also only offer breakfast buffet for $50 per person no more ala carte menu which forces everyone to buy the buffet. overall average and overpriced. Much better hotels in the area to chose from.

Wonderful resort! This is our second year coming to the Fairmont Orchid. We enjoyed everything aboit this resort. Plenty of food options for adults and children. Fantastic pool with an adult pool section. Great private beach area with cove where water is calm and beautiful! See some fish life and turtles too! We definitely will be back again.

The staff is always extremely warm and friendly, and they went out of their way to make sure my family and I had a great vacation. The kiddos found a coconut on one of our adventures and brought it back to the hotel wanting to crack it open - turns out the landscaping team not only obliged but they even brought a brand new fresh coconut guessing the kids didn’t get a fresh pick. Turns out they were right and the replacement coconut turned out better than the original and the kids got to check another thing off their bucket list - drink from a fresh coconut! We ended our stay with a snorkel swim with a green sea turtle which was one of MY bucket list items! The Fairmont Orchid really lives up to the positive reviews and next time we plan a trip to the Big Island, the Orchid will be top of the list.

This was a great family getaway for a birthday celebration. The whole family had a fantastic time, including activities such as horseback riding, trail exploration, archery, and enjoying the kids’ club and all the amenities. It’s a wonderfully relaxing location, and we will definitely be back.

The room is cleaned twice daily. And our kid really likes the swimming pool, and there are several dining options available when we went back late in the evening, it’s convenient to us.

The Fairmont Orchid was our third visit to Hawaii, first to the Big Island. We enjoyed our stay, traveling with 3 kids they were able to move us to a suite at an additional charge that was well worth it! The beach was perfect, and the views were breathtaking. We have stayed at many five star resorts, including the Four Seasons and other Fairmonts. The food options and sometimes service were not to par with these resorts, but definitely a good stay overall.

Pros:
1. Beautiful grounds including a series of waterfalls and koi ponds intertwined with a large pool that overlooks the ocean.
2. Located on an ocean cove that shelters swimmers from rough waves. Ideal for small children and those looking for a relaxing swim.
3. Coastal path that connects multiple resort properties ideal for long walks or runs.
4. On property restaurants consistently served up excellent meals.
Cons:
1. The property feels remote and getting to Kona, Waimea, or Waikoloa Village will take 30 minutes or more.
2. Expect to pay resort prices for any on property meals or drinks. For example, it was $26 for an old fashion. The signature cocktails were slightly less.
