Vila Foz Hotel & SPA - member of Design Hotels

What an amazing hotel! I am quite picky about where we stay on vacation and I have to say this was one of the best. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The rooms and grounds are gorgeous. The morning buffet was incredible as was the food at the restaurant. The bar area is amazing too and to top it off, you can see the Atlantic Ocean from your room! We loved that it was a little removed from the historic downtown of Porto, but still very walkable. We want to come back and bring our three children (college aged and older).

We have booked this hotel treat ourselves after our wedding. We live not far away from the hotel which is located in a lovely place. We arrived at 2 o’clock in the morning with our 10 years old son which he didn’t suppose to be there with us as we wanted to spend a beautiful night and morning just the 2 of us after an amazing wedding day. When we arrived we got told that we booked just for 2 adults and the hotel policy doesn’t allow to have kids in the room. We obviously offered to pay an extra fee and we didn’t need an extra bed, our son could just sleep in our bed. The receptionist said that was not possible, the only thing was to get another room. We stressed once again that was a very special night for us and we didn’t want to sleep in separate rooms on our wedding night (our son could not sleep in a room inhospitable own as he is only 10) and spend another 250€. We asked her to speak with the manager to explain the situation but apparently he wasn’t there but she managed to reach him on the phone. At that point we were quite sure that due the time and the circumstances the manager would accommodate our request. Incredibly the receptionist said that the manager didn’t accept our request so the only option was the 2 rooms. At that point we asked for a taxi so we could go home and that’s what we did! This hotel was a very pleasant surprise. We were a little apprehensive due to the fact that it is fairly new, but we were blown away by the whole experience! Maria at reception was a dream, very knowledgeable and understanding of our needs. Philip was also very attentive. Jose in the bar area was very friendly and charming. The staff in the breakfast restaurant were also very kind and helpful, food was great too. The hotel itself was very quirky and unique with a lot of surprising touches. We love unconventional hotels where the design is creative and eclectic. A lot of thought and detail was put into designing this hotel. Whoever is behind this spectacular property has built a gem. We will definitely recommend to our friends and family.
