The hotel is a historical building built in the 1910s. Our suite is a duplex of two bedrooms on the upper floor and a very spacious sitting room pllus a full kitchen with dishwasher on the lower floor. The location of the hotel is convenient. It's great to stay there for 4 nights. Our family has been well embraced in a strong historical atmosphere as well as warm hospitality expressed by the hotel staff. We highly recommend this marvellous hotel.

The hotel has a definite vintage feel to it, with retro styled furniture in an old government building. The location is excellent, right across the street from shops and the ticket office for tours. The room was actually a 2 bedroom 2 floor apartment with a full kitchen, seating area, dining area and laundry machines. Note though, as an older building it is not wheelchair accessible; no ramps, just stairs (there is a lift once you get inside, but you have to get up the stairs to get in). Would be a great place to stay for a family or group travelling together.

I will stay here again. I confused the woman at reception by asking to make sure I had a Queen bed (she saw this as a "downgrade") – not, as I like to call them, a “fake King”. This is where they push two singles together and put something over the top. This may be fine for two people but it’s somewhat irritating for the solo traveller who likes to sleep in the middle… My other request was for a quiet room – which I know is a bit of an ask in the centre of the city. Worked out pretty well. I love the loft bedroom/bathroom layout – as it means “elephants” (usually children) in the room above stop thumping directly overhead once they go up to bed themselves. Do put the heating on even when you aren’t there – because it will make a big difference in overall comfort (took me a while to figure that out - I was trying to save power). The hot water was great and there was adjustable pressure for the shower as w3ell as plenty for the bath. Bed was comfy – and a tv up there as well. I even made use of some of the kitchen facilities (mainly the fridge and the microwave). Lovely building (I even read the guide provided) and awesome location. Highly recommend.

Driving the car to the hotel was a little tricky as there are a lot of road closures but when we phoned we were given good directions, even though we had to drive down a street with a no entry sign. Only valet parking was a bit annoying and cost $20 a day. it would be good if they had a car park that you had a ticket for. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful The hotel was in a great location for seeing the city and getting on the trams. The basement swimming pool was a plus but it is a lane only pool so not suitable for children.

Rare heatwave in Christchurch meant rooms were a little hot as we could not open windows however we asked reception and they promptly brought 2 fans for us to help us sleep. Perfect location and lovely friendly helpful staff, cosy bathrobes even for the children. 2 bathrooms and washing machine made for a very easy stay with nothing to want for. Restaurants in area were overpriced and the local Chinese quite average. Recommend researching this before heading out cold as we did. The in house restaurant was very busy and menu did look good, wish we'd tried that now.
