Holiday Inn Express Rotterdam - Central Station, an IHG Hotel

I have stayed at this hotel many times. It's very close to Rotterdam Central train station and to the main shopping area. There are some strange management choices though. We had booked 3 rooms and we were denied check-in at 14:30 for all of them due to the hotel being fully booked. We were asked to wait at least until 15:00 without guarantees. I spend about 60 nights a year at hotels and it is the first time I could not get at least one room at check-in time for a multiple room booking. Additionally, I find it strange that there is no mini fridge in the room. I can understand eco consciousness but how about the comfort of guests who may have to keep their medicines chilled or parents who may need to keep baby food fresh? One expects better service, especially for those prices.

The hotel stay, I would say, was way ahead of our expectation. This was our 1st visit to Rotterdam. We stayed here during New year for 7 nights. The hotel is perfectly located at stone-throw distance from Rotterdam Centraal, and within walkable distance from shopping area, & various tourist destinations. Tram stops & a Metro station is just outside the hotel. Due to the location of the hotel, our movement around the city was very easy. We liked the cozy & clean rooms, courtious & helpful staff, timely house-cleaning service. Rooms normally do not have a refrigerator, but upon request they immediately provided. The morning breakfast was sumptuous, though not very elaborate, but much more than a person needs. There were varieties of food items available, hot & cold. The only thing it lacked, was a live cooking station. Saw lot of families with young kids & babies in the hotel (at breakfast hall). We did not try lunch and dinner at hotel as we were out from morning till very late evening. I would definitely suggest this hotel for couples & family stay.

Family room very small with one small window on the child side of the room, very disappointing breakfast. Very basic.

My experience at the reception was not satisfactory. The staff couldn’t help arrange two rooms next to each other for us. It’s not convenient for us to take care of our children. And one of the rooms’ door lock had problem and needed to exchange another room. The hotel needs to take much attention to the facilities of the room.

We were very satisfied with our stay. The room was on the small side, but quiet, clean and modern. Location was great for us. It was a short walk to the station and several tram lines stopped right in front. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple, served in paper sacks because of C19, but perfectly fine. My one criticism was the long wait times for the elevators. Only two of the four were in use. The rules stated only one person/family unit at a time, making the situation even worse. We took the elevator once and then chose to use the stairs for the rest of our three day stay. We were only on the third floor, but I’m sure that it was frustrating for the guests on the higher floors and others who had difficulty with climbing stairs. All in all, excellent value for money.
