Van der Valk Amsterdam Amstel

Called several times before arrival with questions, and in every case we were given incorrect information about dining options in area (were told there were none because it’s in industrial area even though they have a map with 10 places you could walk to), questions about Johan Cruyff arena rules were met with no answer, “I don’t know” or blank stares, and pool was so cold it felt like the North Sea. Horrible experience with Amstel Restaurant and the Modum (sp?) Bar. Checked with 3 staff members including restaurant manager and front desk manager about dining at restaurant for dinner with party of 3. All confirmed reservation not required and that restaurant closed at 11. NO ONE mentioned that Kitchen closed at 10. When we arrived after day of sightseeing at a little before 10, we were turned away. If you can’t order after 10 then that should be communicated. We were then told Bar restaurant was only option in area - food was so greasy and without flavor, and definitely not appropriate for young child in our party. Service was horrible and we couldn’t get glass of wine for first 30 min because there were “no clean glasses”! No matter what question we asked or help we needed, the staff took zero initiative and either couldn’t or wouldn’t assist.

The hotel is very nice, we enjoyed our stay as a family, the breakfast could be improved on anyway as there seems to be not so many options to pick from. Good facilities, good location as well.

Great hotel option for a family room. Bathroom was also adequate size for a family. Staff were accommodating and the buffet breakfast was delicious. Would stay here again.

Excellent stay. The hotel was beautiful, service was fantastic. We had the family room which was great with 2 children. The bunk beds had a small lounge area and tv with a sliding door to separate bedrooms. We used the wellness suite which was fabulous and spent quite a few hours in there. Evening we ate in the bar, food was served until 11pm so great to get something later after a full day in Amsterdam. Prices were very reasonable and staff very friendly. Breakfast was amazing, I would say give yourself plenty of time to eat in there as so much to choose from. Unfortunately they started closing things up early, so we missed out on the hot food. Reception apologised about this and refunded us. I would love to return and definitely make sure we were in earlier for the breakfast.

Room appeared very clean, however the mattress was noticeably quite stained. Beds, including bunks in the kid area were very comfortable. Food was great in restaurant, including great service. Our room was not ready for 3pm check in, however we were provided a beverage in the restaurant to compensate. Very safe neighborhood, not any amenities near by, but easy metro access.

Great place to stay on a two day layover with family. Had a suite with lots of room. The spa was great and relaxing for the whole family. Close to metro. Great, friendly service. I highly recommend.

Hotel is very well maintained and clean. We had three separate twin beds in the room with good amount of space around. Nearby Railroad station of Overamstel is very convenient to travel to Amsterdam Centraal in 16 to 20 minutes but the path towards the station is not at all clean. The Hotel doesn't have Laundry Washer & Dryer onsite for guests to use it like you find at every hotel in USA. Hotel Room doesn't have Iron and Iron board like you find at every hotel in USA. This is an inconvenience for family.

Excellent hotel ! Service was top notch. Traveling with the family and would love to return. They helped us with our room set up, found us a car to go in and out of the city, and we ate at the restaurant. We truly enjoyed all elements and highly recommend.
