DO NOT BOOK Hotel Abi d'our if you are a couple looking for a romantic, getaway. DO BOOK it if you have kids! 25% of the humans staying at the hotel were under the age of 6, 40% under the age of 15. It was overwhelming and shocking for us as a couple on our honeymoon. Kids screaming down the hallways when we were trying to "nap" :) Kids in the bar area, Kids in the restaurant, Kids on the beach. There was no adult area. When sitting for dinner (surrounded by crying babies and kids running around) they asked us if we had the the all you can eat dinner package. That was the moment we realized the Abi d'Oru was a cruise ship on land. The beach and water are stunningly beautiful, but the chaos of the children overwhelmed any moment of relaxation. For the first time in my life, I asked to meet with the manager. I told her we'd be checking out the next morning and that we would be fine paying for the first night, but we’d like a refund for the remaining nights. She began the conversation apologetic, but soon began to gaslight me. She refused to offer a refund, she didn’t offer to transfer our rooms, didn’t send a bottle of presecco...she could tell that we were upset, but put it on us for booking the hotel with a "tough luck" attitude. It was so bad, we left the next morning forfeiting the cost of our remaining 2 days. On a side note, our bathroom smelled like sewer (to be fair many do in Italy) and there were a few rats in the gym when we arrived to work out.

This property is for families. Tons of babies and toddlers. This is not a place for couples. It’s very clean, and the staff is welcoming, but the food wasn’t great, and prices for food and drinks were way over priced. In fact, they are double Porto Cervo. We wouldn’t go back.

This is a lovely hotel, stunning scenery of turquoise sea so try to get a sea view room if you can. It’s a 5 star hotel for sure. Beautifully planted gardens with herbs and flowers to take a walk through, we played tennis in the courts on the grounds and joined the free evening yoga class under a clear blue sky. The Spa delivered a wonderful massage. Everywhere you go, there is attention to detail with the free welcome drinks, clean, well-equipped rooms, marble bathroom, bathrobes and slippers, kettle and coffee making facilities, books, and we had a lovely balcony with lots of room and privacy. The staff are so helpful. Guest Relations took genuine interest in trying to find another room for me so I could be closer to my family. The sea really is crystal clear. And the pool is lovely. Really, I loved everything about it but please take note that you really do need a car if you stay here. You can easily spend the price of your flight on taxi fares to see anywhere else. There is a free shuttle to Porto Rotondo very close by, which we took. The driver offered to pick us up after dinner which we were very glad of but what he didn’t say is that as it was after the free window of time (last shuttle is 6:30pm), it would cost us €58 for that pick up and I only saw this at check out when I went to pay the bill. A trip to Porto Cervo was quoted at Euro130 one way. So we didn’t leave the hotel after that. Nevertheless if you want to just chill in amazing surroundings, this is a winner

We had a fantastic stay. All the staff and the food were really excellent and it was such a great place for us to be with a toddler.

4 out of 5 stars

This 3-night stay was part of a 12-night trip to Sardinia, staying in 4 different hotels. The Hotel Abi D’Oru is exactly what you would expect from a resort: good facilities, good restaurants, decent sized beach and lots of beach loungers / umbrellas. Staff were very professional and attentive. The room (we chose a junior suite) was very large, spacious and bright. However, we do have one small problem: there is no heating (only Air Conditioning). Most of the year, this won’t matter. Even when we visited (mid October), it only became an issue in the evening... but it *was* an issue, so its something that potential visitors should be aware of & pack accordingly. One other point to note: on-site prices to sit and have drink in the lobby. We paid €30 for a single glass of ‘house’ wine (ie not a special bottle €14) plus a Bourbon & Coke (standard drink, not ‘aged’ €16). This basically meant we went outside, bought our wine and drank it on the balcony instead. In this situation, everyone loses out (including the hotel). It’s worth pointing out that these prices are not unusual in the Costa Smeralda hotels.
