Hotel Splendid

We stayed there in July 2006. From the moment we arrived we were impressed... When we pulled up at the front door (we were travelling in our own car) the Porter immediately came out to ask if we needed help with luggage. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. They even showed us personally to our rooms (how many 4* hotels do this?). They offered good advice about boat trips etc, telling us which islands to visit and which are not so interesting (good local advice and far more helpful than the local Tourist Information office!) The rooms were in excellent condition and very attractive (we had a side view of the lake). Our teenage childrens room was an odd shape (very long and narrow with two single beds almost end to end), but I think the square footage was probably the same as our bigger room. Perhaps the only (small) negative feedback is the waiters at breakfast were less friendly (but still OK). We didnt try the pool (it looked nice), but the barman in the hotel bar was great fun with his jokes and general welcoming attitude. The town of Baveno is nothing special....Stressa (the next town along the road) is much better and many more restaurants. If I were to stay in Baveno again, then I would be very happy to choose this hotel (however, there are many other locations along the lake shore).
