El Carmen Hotel

My kids and I spent several nights at El Carmen and it was wonderful! We arrived at midnight and the guy at the front desk was very helpful and efficient - he was so great throughout our visit. We had a room with 3 double beds and they were really comfortable - soft sheets and pillows (we have stayed at 4 hotels in Guatemala) and fluffy towels - best of the hotels we have been at. The water pressure in the shower was AMAZING - really impressed. There were plenty of outlets and we were able to use our 3 prong plugs. The hotel is in a perfect location to get to shops and restaurants. Downtown Antigua reminds me of Carmel, California - everything is nice and cute. But it definitely caters to the tourist. El Carmen was a great home base for us. The EcoFarm tour was top notch, Tartines for dinner had a view of ruins, and the hike to Pakaya was appropriately challenging. The only negative for El Carmen is that the internet in the room was slow sometimes (this didn’t bother me) - my daughter went in the courtyard where the signal was stronger. My daughter was also disappointed that there are no windows to the outside, but that didn't bother me. All in all, great stay at El Carmen - would go there again! (Also wanted to recommend Adralina Tours - they drove us to all locations in Guatemala)

I absolutely loved my 2 nights at hotel Carmen. The view from the terrace was amazing and the quality of breakfast was as well. The customer service is some of the best I’ve seen. My last night there I was having abdominal pain and had to wake up at 3 am to make it to the airport. I messaged the hotel’s concierge to see if they had any medicine. He brought me seltzers and made sure I was up at 3 am for my shuttle. They treat you like family here. Highly recommend!!
