My family and I checked into the Plaza Hotel close to port as instructed before walking a short distance to Urika hotel. We were warmly welcomed by Yiannis Kalamakis who assures your party are in very good hands. He cares very much about your stay and exhumed positive energy along with his father. Only room available during a one night stay was a 3 bed layout which was adequate size, extra firm bedding suiting us well with nice clean chlorinated fluffy bath towels. TV screen was more of a 19" computer monitor but we don't watch TV anyways. Bathroom floor will get wet due to bath curtain design in this room. A fridge kept any beverages or food cool. I rented a car for a day from his recommendation for 35euro total. This is where people reading this may have better experience prebooking online with reputable companies and not using Yiannis's choice even if it cost a tiny bit more. I don't expect much from rental cars but received a subcompact car that is probably 20-25 years old. It was a hyundai indian spec car. The Indian guy showed me the gas level which was NOT touching the 1/4 line mark when we drove off. We drove to temple of Aphaea, Agios Nektarios, and lighthouse. The tripmeter roundtrip was 33km or no more than 25 miles. I added 5 euro (0.75 gallons) to replace the fuel consumed. The Indian car renter said he wanted 5 more euros because not 1/4 mark. We gave him more more money but TAKE A PICTURE of gauge and show them first so no debate.

The Ulrika is in a very central position only minutes from all Aegin’s facilities. Our room was spacious, hard a capacious fridge, good shower and nice little balcony. We stayed out of season and street-noise was not a problem except in the busy morning rush hour. The managing family based in their other hotel, The Plaza, could not have been more friendly, obliging and helpful. Yes, you can get a better hotel in Aegina but you will pay much more. As regards a balance of value and quality the Ulrika cannot be beaten. Well recommended.

We had such a great time in Aegina and a big part of that was our stay at the Ulrika Hotel. When you arrive, you actually do the check in at a different hotel (The Plaza) . When we checked in we met the most wonderful, warm and friendly family who welcomed us and treated us as if we were their family. They got us all check in and brought our bags (4 carry on sized bags on a moped) to our hotel. The room was comfortable and clean and had a great working air conditioner ( a must in August). The bathroom was clean with a small corner shower with one of those flimsy shower curtains that sticks to you....basically the norm in all the hotels we stayed at during our vacation...you get use to it. We really enjoyed our balcony, we spent time there every night watching the beautiful sunset and enjoying a few drinks. The hotel is one block behind the main street so it is quiet yet still close enough to get to anywhere you really need to go on the island. You really can't go wrong with staying at the Ulrika...the room and location are great, the price is right and most importantly, you will feel like you are part of the family...thank you Kalamakis family for taking such good care of us.
