Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor

Even though I was told it’s just been renovated Grand hotel d’Angkor still has all the trapping of a 1930’s historic hotel such as the original wooden lift which really makes you fell like you’ve been transported back in time. The staff were also excellent and really made you feel like family. Although it’s expensive is still think the hotel offers unbelievable value for money for the quality you are getting for the price (£1000 a night hotels in London are not as good as this place). The one thing I would is the breakfast could be a bit better, the bread and sausages were not up to the high standards of everything else at the hotel.

The hotel is well located, near the old Chinatown. You will not be able to walk from this hotel other than just few hundred metres to visit the National Mosque. The room was nice and well kept. Check-in was easy. I found two annoying things: 1. Since you rely on taxis, the hotel has not got a system (light flashing, signals, speakers, etc.) which calls you a taxi from the road. You have to hail yourself which may be annoying and time consuming. You may have to wait 5, 10 or 15 minutes. 2. The swimming pool is not great and does not get sun after 1:00 p.m. If you are thinking about sunbathing in the afternoon you will not be able to do so here. It is a poor pool without garden. The views are great but it feels small and is usually packed with families and children. Not ideal if on your holidays you require a decent pool to relax. Leaving aside these two points, I thought the hotel was good.
